The article Brief History The War on Drugs By Claire Suddath has a quote that shocks everyday americans "And yet, within the past 40 years, the U.S. government has spent over $2.5 trillion dollars fighting the War on Drugs. Despite the ad campaigns, increased incarceration rates and a crackdown on smuggling, the number of illicit drug users in America has risen over the years and now sits at 19.9 million Americans. And a large portion of their supply makes its way into the country through Mexico." 2.5 trillion dollars could be spent towards a plan to help the economy, or better things. The economy is spiriling downward at the moment and fighting the drugs shouldn't be the least of the worries but sadly it isn't because some of the economic troubles is because of drugs. People misuse drugs, and with the easy access of getting drugs through dealers, doctors, and other sources. When the drug trafficing increases and drugs are reduced the U.S. will be a better, safer nation.
